Black Jewelry Boxes The history of black boxes date back centuries, which was an item used by the high income social groups who admired sophistication in every little item. However the industrial revolution which opened doors to mass production enabled the middle class society to purchase decorative and elegant luxury black boxes.
Antimonial lead was the most common metal used in the construction of black boxes. During the 1900s, the most widely used black boxes contained a decorative design named ‘Art Nouveaue’. Art Nouveaue was a design with a romantic touch and was well-known for its perfect blend with nature with flower sentiments of roses, daisies etc. During this era, the wide usage of black boxes were backed by the department stores and hyper markets in the United States promoting its low prices and elegance through mail order catalogs. They were promoted in numerous sizes and styles ranging from diminutive ring boxes to black boxes which were large enough to store a lady’s gloves.
A variety of American manufacturers are engaged in the manufacture of black boxes. Such manufacturers include Jennings Brothers, Kronheimer and Oldebusch, Benedic, NB Rogers, and The Art Metal Works.
A black box is considered to be more than an ordinary box. It’s considered to be an ornamental work of art which is used to store and protect
precious such as necklaces, bracelets and other valuables.
At present, black boxes are made available all over the United States and around the world. Modern day boxes are constructed under three distinct categories of objectives; namely, boxes which are intended specifically to protect and organize when travelling, boxes which are used for decorative purposes and boxes which are used to protect when at home. Even though a majority of black boxes are constructed with women in mind, there are boxes specially designed for men and children as well.
A basic black box contains several drawers and a few cabinets with mirrors attached to it. An increasingly popular type of black box among women is the fabric box. These are generally made out of satin or velvet. On the other hand boxes which are designed for men are called ‘valets’ and are simpler forms of boxes than those designed for women. A typical black box designed for men will be covered in leather and are used to store watches and cuff links.
However the latest trends of storage has evolved from its traditional black box. Some of such new mechanisms of storage include cases, armoires, trays and hanging organizers.
The prices of the black boxes range from $40 to $250.
